Setting Up an Agency: Part 1 - Personal Brand vs. Agency Brand

If you're brand new to adult-creator management and want to start your own agency then this article is definitely for you, as we will compare Personal Brands & Agency Brands to help you decide which one is right for you.

What is a Personal Brand?

In short, a personal brand is a unique combination of values, knowledge, skills and everything else within a personality that shapes how a person is perceived by others. This can be genuine or engineered to suit a purpose (such as wanting to be perceived as an OFM guru). Your face will be seen and will become trusted as an OFM expert.

The Pro's of a Personal Brand

  • More trusted by individuals, as there is a 'face to a name' instead of a faceless company

  • Individuals will relate more to a person talking about their experiences, problems and wins compared to a company

  • Allows you to 'lock' your business identity to your own identity.

The Con's of a Personal Brand

  • Your face is associated with Only Fans Management (and family & friends will probably find out)

  • If you have more fails than successes, you could be associated with failure and can't re-brand

  • May attract negative attention towards your personal life & family etc

What is an Agency Brand?

An agency brand is simply the name of your business, such as 'Model Fans Management'. It's the perfect choice if you want to keep your face and name away from the spotlight. It also makes it a lot easier to sell the business later on down the line.

Do's

  • Register as a company - Limited (Ltd) in the UK & LLC in the US

  • Get a business bank account under your newly registered company name

  • Get a Virtual Office address to protect your personal address from being shown on the public record

  • Design a logo or pay to have one created

  • Make a website or pay to have one made

  • Create socials under your new company name

  • Link to your Personal Brand in your socials/website if you are using one also

Don't

  • DON'T use a 'not-safe-for-work' (NSFW) name or a name that associated with adult themes as your registered company name such as 'OnlyFans Management Co.', 'Adult Content Management', X-Rated Consultants', as payment providers and banks may refuse to accept your business. However, these are acceptable for 'Trading Names'. I know we walk the line with 'Model Fans Management' but we recommend being more careful when choosing a name. A neutral name is a safer choice, such as 'Palm Tree Promotions' or 'Curb Management' etc.

  • DON'T use your personal socials as your company socials, as your company will need it's own identity. However, feel free to share content from your agency especially if you are also using a Personal Brand.

The Pro's of an Agency Brand

  • Protects your identity from the public

  • May make it easier to obtain a bank account & finance

  • May make it easier to sell in the future, as the brand will be it's own entity

  • Allows you to step away from the brand, as the agency doesn't rely on your face & personality

The Con's of an Agency Brand

  • Can seem 'faceless' to creators, who may prefer to work with someone they can see

  • Harder to make the agency unique to creators without your Personal Brand

Overall:

Both a great choices with their own Pro's & Con's but we would highly recommend a Personal Brand because it has been consistently proven that Personal Brands (in any business) make it easier to gain trust from those who you want as a client or customer.

Using both is preferred but there's nothing wrong with just using a company name because as long as you put the work in, you will succeed no matter what you choose.
