As you probably know, Instagram is one of the most 'family friendly' social networks out there, which is why it's important to tread carefully when promoting your 'adult' content.
As many models will tell you, it's easy to get banned and also shadow banned just by slightly stepping outside of Instagram's content guidelines but the excellent features, audience reach and potential payoff is well worth the risk. Basically if you're not using instagram to gather a following, you definitely should be.
Start by optimising your profile
Profile Photo
Choose an appropriate (Safe For Work) profile picture, which shows your face (if you're showing your face that is). If you're not showing your face, keep it clean and not too revealing.
Username
Again, keep it clean and relevant to who you are. It would be best if you can keep the same username across platforms, as it will help to identify you to potential subs, especially if they're not sure of your username on a certain platform, they can simply search the one they do know.
Avoid words that could potentially trigger an automatic ban, such as @___OnlyFans, @___OF @___Model @___69 etc.
Name on profile
Again, avoid any triggering words and keep it safe for work. Your stage name or alias is recommended unless you actually use your real name.
For example, use: 'Jane Doe' and not 'Jane Doe OF Model'
Profile Description
To make things more complicated, try and avoid describing what you actually do. For example, don't put 'Adult content creator/model/OF creator' but instead perhaps describe elements of your personality, for eample, 'Nature lover & gym enthusiast'. Basically anything that's as safe for work as possible.
Link in bio
Do not put a direct link to your Onlyfans, Fansly or other website which hosts adult content. Instead, use a website like Linktree and create two profiles. The link on your bio shouldn't go to a Linktree with your Onlyfans/Fansly on but instead should go to a Linktree, which links to your second Linktree account - this second Linktree account is where potential subs will find those spicy links. Adding a 'buffer' Linktree may reduce the chances of getting banned/shadow banned, as social networks are less likely to detect it.
Your Feed
When it comes to which photos are acceptable on Instagram that should be pretty obvious. As family friendly as possible is the best way to think about it but this may not be fit for purpose due to the fact that you are an adult content creator.
Feel free to push boundaries but never show nudity and don't act in a sexual way or too provocitavely, even if you are fully clothed, as this may still be flagged as sexual content.
Perhaps use Instagram as a behind the scenes/daily life style collection, which can be very popular with potential subs and is a great way to stay safe from penilisation.
Backup/2nd accounts
We definitely recommend creating a second account just in case your primary account is banned. However, do not link or promote your second account trhough your primary account, as Instagram may see this and target your second account automatically. Guilty by association as it were.
Also, try not to post the same photos. Perhaps post similiar photos from the same photo sessions. Try to keep then two unique.
Hashtags & Tagging others
Keep hashtags clean and relevant. For example (you know the score by now) don't hashtag adult themes such as #adult #model #onlyfans #fansly #OF #contentcreator #lingerie #showering etc. Instead, keep it rlevant to what you're doing, such as #photography #fashion #shopping #holiday #nature #coffee #friends
If collaborating with others, be careful about tagging them and review their profile first to make sure there aren't any potential risked like we've mentioned above. A ban or shadow ban may transfer to your account if the creator you've tagged is penalised.
That's it for now, thanks for ready and feel free to contact us if you have any questions or would like help optimising your Instagram profile.
